Absolutely NOT. A militia in today's world has come to be associated with a group who is concerned that our government, our military, or our police agencies are conspiring against civilians, and the militia aims to be the guard against those aggressions. We are proud supporters of our police, military, and first responders. Although we have a protection component which includes the use of weapons, those weapons are aimed against criminals who wish to do harm against ourselves, our families, or our fellow law abiding citizens.
No. We are a collection of volunteers and normal every day citizens who have jobs in a vast array of positions. CCRT is not affiliated with any parent organization. Many of our members are military, law enforcement, fire, or ems, but that is in their day to day life.
A1. In the United States the average response time is 7 minutes before one of those "first" responders can arrive on scene. In the meantime, there are usually other civilians on scene watching the crisis occur. Instead of picking up a cell phone and getting video for YouTube, we pick up our gear and help the situation until the "cavalry" can arrive.
A2. In other situations, our police/fire/ems are simply overwhelmed. In a massive disaster, there is often a need for additional help above and beyond those who are being paid to respond. We assist in filling the gaps.
You can absolutely help on your own, and we encourage all citizens to help where they are able. We merely help make you a more effective responder through training, organization, and the proper equipment.
